President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in in Washington, D.C. today. He will be the first president since the 1890s to serve a second term, not a second.
The inauguration of the 78-year-old President-elect, who will succeed the outgoing 82-year-old President Joe Biden, is expected to be watched by millions of Americans on television.
The inauguration, originally planned for the Capitol, was moved indoors due to inclement weather, with only about 600 of the 250,000 people who had purchased tickets to watch the ceremony.
Bands, parades, and a walk along Pennsylvania Avenue between the Capitol and the White House have also been canceled.
President-elect Trump said yesterday that he would lift the curtain on the general recession of the past four years and begin a new era in the United States.
As he said during the election campaign, he will use presidential powers and executive orders to reverse President Biden’s policies, including deporting illegal immigrants. President-elect Trump also said he would raise tariffs on imports from China, Canada and Mexico, the United States’ main trading partners.
